O Day of days! Who can fathom it– this great Day of God? In one abrupt instant, abysmal dread will pierce the hearts of the inhabitants of this earth. This Day shall come! We are hastening unto it!
In Noah’s time, the day finally arrived when the rebellious were overtaken with horrors as the fountains of the deep and the heavens above poured forth a torrent of God’s judgments on their wicked and unbelieving hearts. The door of the ark, once open to them, closed. No hope or refuge then!
More woeful still will be this dread day yet future! Reader, “this we say unto you by the word of the Lord”–the last trump shall sound and Jesus Christ Himself will most surely appear in the clouds with a shout so powerful that all the dead will come out of their graves. The stupefied and fear-stricken multitudes will behold Him in all of His power and great glory. O for a hiding place! Were it not for the incorruptible bodies all will receive upon His return, none could bear to stand in the presence of our Almighty and holy God and Creator.
Presidents and kings, the proud, the rich, the famous, all will fall to their knees and cry out with frenzied weeping and wailing. O the unmitigated agony of earth’s unregenerate masses when at last they are apprehended by divine justice! O His presence! His power! His holiness! Who can stand when He appeareth?
The ancients refused to heed the warnings of Noah and perished in the flood. Sinner, don’t refuse to heed the warnings now! This Day shall come and you will be there! Such a great and dreadful Day has not been known throughout all the history of man. It will be the Last Day, when “every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen” (Revelation 1:7).
Sinner, be afraid! To spurn the proffered gift of so great a salvation is a criminal offence. Woe, woe, woe to those yet in sin at His appearing, for the Lord Jesus will come “in flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ”! While the door of mercy is yet open, haste ye to it, lest that Day come upon you unawares!
